TxDOT Plan

TxDOT plans to expand U.S. 290 and Highway 71 through the “Y” in Oak Hill in Southwest Austin with toll road overpasses 50 feet above the ground. This is TxDOT’s tolled, 12-lane expansion plan.

Because of its size and scope, this plan continues to be delayed. Click here to see the reasons for the delay.

TxDOT's vision

TxDOT’s plan calls for the removal of Williamson Creek for more than 1-mile. This riparian environment crosses over the Edwards Recharge zone a few hundred feet downstream.

TxDOT produced a 3-D fly around animation movie as part of its May 2-3, 2006 open house presentation. The Fix290 Coalition was able to obtain the TxDOT fly around animation movie through the Freedom of Information Act, and we are pleased to be able to present to you TxDOT’s own vision of what the Hwy 290/71 interchange would look like under TxDOT’s plan.
